A couple of kind souls emailed me with the suggestion that my
possible Stilt Sandpipers seen at Hoover Reservoir over the weekend
(11.03.07) fit the description, and timing, of Dunlin quite well.
Indeed, I used the www.mangoverde.com website to find a photo that
was a better fit for what I had seen than the Stilts.

I had some reservations in calling them Stilts due to leg length and
the timing but thought that the head-dunking behavior might be
specific to them. And I did not study the winter plumage of Dunlin
well enough either.

Thanks Doug and Jay for the help!
