CACKLING GOOSE: Kent Miller found two of these diminutive "chin-strap" geese
in farm fields near Hartville, Stark County, on the 27th.

Brant: Bret McCarty saw four fly pass Headlands Beach, Lake County, on the
28th.

Long-tailed Duck: Bret McCarty passed along a report that one was at
Headlands Beach, Lake County, on the 28th.

Golden Eagle: Two flew over Irwin Prairie, Lucas County, while Rick Nirschl
was there on the 30th. Brian Menker spotted a juvenile flying over C.J. Brown
reservoir, Clark County, on the 31st.

Purple Sandpiper: Bob Lane met up with an early arrival at Conneaut,
Ashtabula County, on the 29th.

Red Phalarope: Bret McCarty passed along a report that one was at Headlands
Beach, Lake County, on the 28th. John Pogacnik's lakeshore survey of the
birds passing his North Perry, Lake County, home on the 28th included one.

RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD: An immature male has been visiting a garden and feeders
in Bluffton, Allen County, from the 25th at least through the 31st. The bird
was captured and banded on the 29th. Birders are welcome. Linda Houshower,
the homeowner, provided these directions: Bluffton is off I-75, 18 miles
north of Lima or south of Findlay. Take either Bluffton exit, east on Main
St. to the Fire station on one corner, and East of Chicago on the other
corner, the street is Washington. Turn left(north),3 stop signs(Jackson,
Lawn, Spring), the house is a tall brown with red roof on the right, where
the street dead ends. Park on the side of the street or at the dead end. Come
up the sidewalk towards the house, can't miss the feeders and activity.

Northern Shrike: On the 26th Tom Bain had one at Killdeer Plains along CH
115. Bill Whan passed along a report of one from Lake Road in the Bradstreet
Landing area of Rocky River, Cuyahoga County, on the 28th. Dana Bollin found
one while walking the dikes at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge on the 29th.

Le Conte's Sparrow: The celebrity birds at Funk Wildlife Area, Wayne County,
continue to draw crowds, with reports of sightings from the 26th through the
30th.

Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow: John Kuenzli reported one from the Le Conte's
Sparrow spot of Funk WA, Wayne County, on the 26th. Ryan Steiner had one
there on the 28th.

Evening Grosbeak: One visited Pat Soehnlen's sunflowers near Wilmot, Stark
County, on the 31st. Bill Whan passed along a report of one visiting a feeder
at North Chagrin Reservation, Cuyahoga County, on the 1st.
