I went back to Sims Park in Euclid today from about 11:45 to 1:30pm. Big difference from yesterday when there were strong northerly winds. Today the lake was smooth as glass (southerly winds) and I could see some of the birds others had seen Saturday. Here is what I saw today:
Common Loons - 18 or more
Horned Grebes - 130 (stopped counting at that point) had one group of 18
Red-breasted Mergansers - out further today - more than 150
Black Scoters 2 (females) as was seen yesterday by others (could find no Surfs today birds were spread out with nice weather)
Common Goldeneye - at least 8
Bufflehead - few
Group of 9 or 10 dark ducks farther out looked like male & female Scaup (couldn't make out any of them as Scoters) had longer necks females white around bill
Double-crested Cormorants - group of about 35
Bonaparte's Gulls - were putting on a show with feeding frenzy close in the food must of been good
at Wildwood Park in Cleveland earlier in the morning couldn't find much, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Golden-crowned Kinglets, 2 American Tree Sparrows and 1 - Merlin in tree.
