The Columbus Audubon trip to this south Columbus park was greeted by cold, overcast weather. A thin strip of blue sky to the south told us where the good weather was receding, and many of the birds seemed to realize it, as we had many small flocks of blackbirds, robins, and waxwings heading that way. We started at Heron Pond, then visited the Confluence area; I later stopped briefly at the Groveport Blacklick Bikepath. Waterfowl were largely absent (save geese & mallards), and raptors were scarce as well (although we did have a very accomodating Red-tail along Williams Rd and a Sharp-shin at the Confluence area). Best birds were Fox Sparrows, which numbered at least 10 for the morning; one flock along the bikepath north of Heron Pond had 6 birds in it, and 4 more were scattered along the GBB. Other notables included a Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Golden-crowns at the Confluence area along with 2 early Pine Siskins, and several Towhees and Brown Creepers along the Groveport Blacklick Bikepath.
