Another extraordinary sighting of Sandhill Cranes today- 300+ flying over
the Fairfield Commons mall in Greene County.  My wife, Bonnie, heard them
first, giving their rolling croaks as they soared overhead in a big V of
V's, headed south southeast.

As the cranes disappeared into the distance, we looked around the parking
lot at our fellow shoppers scurrying to and from their cars.  We were the
only people who had noticed these spectacular birds.  This is what drew me
into birdwatching in the first place almost 50 years ago:  the realization
of world of pulsating life all around us that most of us experience only
subliminally, if at all.

This is the biggest concentration of Sandhills I have seen in Ohio.
