This afternoon (12/22) we visited the lakefront from Gordon Park to
Rocky River Park. The Long-tailed Duck at the Gordon boat basin was
easily seen, but we saw no Horned Grebes there let alone Eared today.
Just west of E. 55th a little group of ducks included American Wigeon,
Canvasback, Redhead, Lesser Scaup and Ruddy Duck. At Burke we saw a dark
Rough-legged Hawk and kestrels.
We hadn't seen comments on scoters recently, so were surprised at
Perkins (the bluff at the west end of Edgewater Park) to see single
White-winged and Surf Scoters. Most of the rest of the ducks there were
Buffleheads. We saw very little off Rocky River Park, but there was a
single Black Scoter to give us one of each for the day.
The Lake View Cemetery Merlin was present just after noon as well.
