Subject: RE: [Ohio-birds] Columbus CBC postponed

Hi Joe,

You're certainly welcome to come help on the Columbus Count. You should know that this is one of 50+ Counts in Ohio. All run sometime between Dec 15 and Jan 5, and all are limited to an imaginary circle some 15 miles in diameter. Most circles were started decades ago, and say in the same place. Columbus' circle, for instance, is centered just west of the Columbus Int'l Airport, and stretches to cover central Columbus, Grandview, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg, and parts of Groveport and Upper Arlington. On the count day, different teams fan out to different parts of the circle to find as many birds as they can during the day. I'm sure the Reynoldsburg team, which is the closest one to you, would be delighted to have another pair of good eyes to help out. Let us know if you're still interested.

Rob Thorn, compiler of the Columbus CBC

PS-There used to be a Buckeye Lake CBC out your way, but they haven't sent us a date this year, so we don't know if they're still running. You might try contacting the Eastside Audubon in Granville/Newark to find out. There's also one in Zanesville, I think.

>With more dangerous weather facing central Ohio for much of tomorrow, the Columbus CBC has been postponed until Dec 30. May you all stay safe, dry, and warm during this period (hopefully keeping an eye on your feeders).
