For about two weeks now I've been watching two Northern Harrier hawks (a
male and a female) hunting near my home along the Lost Branch (of Ohio
Brush Creek) - about 10 mi. due south of Hillsboro in Highland County. I
see them every day and their range seems to be about 3.5 mi. east/west by
about 2 mi. north/south stretching generally along the oat fields,
cornstubble and grasslands that border the south side of Lost Branch. Their
hunt cruising is quite a show, sometimes seeming almost "playful" flights,
and, though they hunt separately, they are a commanding presence in the
area and absolutely beautiful.
