More often than not, I neglect my yard here in Northern Wyandot Co. as I'm out chasing birds elsewhere! Something was different this morning so I've decided to bird right here in my own yard. Being 1/8 of a mile from the Sandusky river seems to have it's benefits at times.

As I was filling my nyger feeders at 8a.m., a flock of 27 SNOW GEESE flew directly overhead not more than 80 feet up. There were 12 white and 15 blues in the mix.

Some of the birds seen so far include:

COMMON REDPOLL 1 A male has mastered the up side down nyger feeder.

PINE SISKIN 1 the first one in about a month.

Cedar Waxwing 4 any waxwings should be studied this year!

Cooper's Hawk 2 1 large imm. female and 1 adult male.

Red tailed hawk 1 interested in all of the yard activity!

Carolina wren 2 eatting oil sunflower seeds; the first time I've seen this.

Pileated Woodpecker 1 In the woods out back but still fearfull of the yard.

White throated sparrow 1 showed up after the snow.

Also a good showings of white breasted nuthatch and tufted titmouse. More inds. than in years.

Big increase of Tree sparrows and juncos.

Nearly all of the Co. roads both east and west off of SR53 have groups of larks, longspurs, and snow buntings. I'm impressed with the flocks of snow buntings with no other birds mixed in with them.
