Today on South Bass Island, I got a call today from Bob Glauser that
he had Common Redpolls at his feeder. As this was a life bird for me, I
went right over! There were about 5-6 Common Redpolls at any one time
moving in and out of the feeding area with House Finches and House
Sparrows. My camera battery went dead so will have to try again tomorrow!
The ice in the harbor blew out last night and so the gulls were
having a feeding frenzy in the harbor this morning and at East Point this
evening-mostly Ring-bill, but also Herring, Bonaparte's and some Great
Black-backed Gulls also.
There were two Long-tailed Ducks in the harbor (two different
locations, females.) One of them was being harrassed by two Ring-billed
Gulls every time it surfaced. Tundra Swans (only 9 now), Common Golden-
eye, Scaup, and Canvasbacks were seen in the bay just to the south of
Perry's Monument. Double-crested cormorants, Bufflehead, and lots more
Scaup were also seen in the harbor.
