Summary of a multi-stop Lorain County day -

Wellington Reservoir: About 10% open water, but that should increase these next few days. Many Canada geese, ring-necked ducks, mallards, and coots. Small numbers of redheads, ruddy ducks, hooded mergansers, and pied-billed grebes.

Findley SP: Crows and black-capped chickadees.

Caley Reservation: 3 long-eared owls, lots of small woodland birds.

Oberlin Reservoir: Also about 10% open. Moderate numbers of Canada geese and ring-billed gulls, a few herring gulls and mallards.

Lorain County Airport (scoping from the southwest corner): 2 red-tailed hawks, 2 northern harriers, three American kestrels, and a rough-legged hawk.

Carlisle Reservation: At the feeders, cardinals, goldfinches, black-capped chickadees, white-breasted nuthatch, titmice, juncos, and way too many house sparrows.

Lorain Harbor (the no-longer-hot water zone): Canada geese, ring-billed and great-black-backed gulls, 4 lesser scaup, and a Cooper's hawk on the power plant.

Avon Lake Power: Ring-billed gulls, mallards, and coots.
