Fellow Ohio and Florida birders,

James Dolan just mentioned returning from a trip to Florida, so I will
take the opportunity to mention a pending trip to the same. I consider
Florida to be a "contiguous" state, based on the efforts of Skybus and such,
and the number of ohio birders who "migrate" there every winter, or who now
reside there.
Will be birding from Ft. Lauderdale area to the Ft. Myers area, with
visits to the Keys, Evergaldes, Corkscrew, Ding Darling and other sites.
Any info on such rare birds as Smooth billed Ani, Spot breasted Oriole,
White-crowned Pigeon, La Sagra's flycatcher, Red-whiskered Bulbul, and the
likes would be appreciated. We're going for the rare ones this time.
I have Pranty's book, the birdtrail maps, and access the TAS Miami bird
board regularly, but could always benefit from that one extra up to the
minute tip that would lead to another life bird.

Meanwhile, on the local front, the best birds of the year continue to
be the yellow bellied sapsucker who visits the feeder daily, the flock of 50
Cedar waxwings in the cedar trees of all places, and the pair of Barred owls
who call almost daily. Also 5 Bluebirds who have been in the yard nearly
every day.

The best of birding to everyone, in every contiguous state and other
places. Will see many of you at The Wilds on Saturday, but you will no
doubt be hard to identify in your extreme winter plumage. I'll be the one
in the funny red plaid hat with big fuzzy ear "tufts".

Joe in the woods,
Perry County
