Between running some errands, my wife Liz and I stopped at the hot water discharge area east of the 72nd Street Marina in Cleveland this morning. Thousands of gulls were the highlight. In a little more than 30 minutes, we were able to find three Iceland Gulls (one adult), three or four Glaucous Gulls (one Adult), plus Bonaparte's, Great Black-backed, Ring-billed and Herring Gulls. In addition, I briefly saw a gull that initially appeared to be a first-year Glaucous but the bird had darker brown primary coloring. I lost the gull before noting any tail band. It may have been a first-year Thayers. The only duck we took note of was a brave Canvasback that swam into the swarm of gulls. (Our thanks to three gentlemen with a scope that allowed us a beautiful look at the adult Iceland)

Back at home in North Olmsted, we finally joined the Common Redpoll parade with four birds gracing our feeders this morning. In addition to the Redpolls, we had Red-breasted Nuthatch (2), White-breasted Nuthatch (1), Carolina Wren (1), American Goldfinch (20), House Finch (3), Dark-eyed Junco (several), and one male Northern Cardinal. While checking a feeder on the side of our house, I was pleasantly surprised to see a Brown Creeper working its way up a tree.

Good birding.
