For Michele Skolmutch:

You do realize that the "Oregon" variety of junco is no longer a separate
species, right? A number of years ago, it got lumped into the general catagory
of Dark-eyed Junco, along with our typical "slate-colored" variety as well as 3
other varieties or subspecies or whatever the correct term is.

So, if you are a lister, confirming the "Oergon" junco won't add a new
species to your total. (Sorry!) When they did that, I lost a bird from my list. I
have both slate-colored and Oregon listed under Dark-eyed Junco just to
satisfy myself.

For Jessica Lowery:

Yes, certainly we get Red-breasted Nutchatches in Ohio. I am further south
than you, near Cincinnati, and saw one Jan. 30 on our CBC. It depends on the
year, though. During the winter of '05-'06, I saw RBNU everywhere I went, and
last winter, I didn't see any. This year looks to be another irruptive year,
as I saw 2 RBNU at a friend's feeder in SE Ohio in Oct.

Welcome to the list.
