This morning Naturalist Jackie Brown and I led the first program for the
Ohio Young Birder's Club Chapter sponsored by the Delaware County Preservation
Parks. We met several great youngsters with an avid interest in birding and
nature. Some parents and a grandparent came along to enjoy this splendid weather
for mid-January. Observations were made at the feeders outside the Nature
Center and during a walk around the nature trail. The star of the day was an
extremely cooperative Barred Owl that was perched where we could get a clean
line on it as it sat in the sunlight. Two other nice finds were Red-breasted
Nuthatches and a Brown Creeper. Hopefully future excursions will be as
successful if not better. This is an opportunity for youngsters with an interest in
birds and nature to get into the field with more experienced birders, visit new
locations and hone their skills. To obtain more information about the Ohio
Young Birders contact Jackie Brown of the Delaware County Preservation Parks
