I used the morning to bird parks along the Scioto River corridor in Dublin (NW suburb of Columbus), as well as nearby Glacier Ridge MetroPark.
The mild weather encouraged many 'early migrants' like larks, blackbirds, and waterfowl. Highlights included:
waterfowl - the masses of mallards & geese along the open stretches of the Scioto river included some Black Ducks, Green-winged Teal, and Lesser Scaup. The reservoir above O'Shaughnessy dam was still iced-in, so most of the activity was in the faster water below, down to Kiwanis Park
raptors - lots of conspicuous Red-tails at many locations, often in pairs. Cooper's were lurking at Kiwanis and Traphagen preserve.
gulls - a flock of 150+ Ring-bills was loafing on the ice above O'Shaughnessy dam, but no other species were found.
Kildeer - single birds were flyovers at Glacier Ridge and traphagen preserve.
Horned Larks - a steady stream of 1 and 2 at a time were flying north for most of the morning.
Blackbirds - steady trickle of Redwings flying north over Glacier Ridge, along with a few grackles that didn't seem so fixed on a direction.
Sparrows - surprisingly scarce, with only a few Tree Sparrows and Song sparrows at most stops, and no big flocks of White-throats anywhere.
