Hello all,
Six years and change ago I moved to Cleveland from Central New York. As
some of you are aware, for a while now I have been looking for an
opportunity to move back to my home town of Syracuse. Well, my search
has borne fruit and in two weeks I will be departing. I just wanted to
post a goodbye to the list and express my thanks to various individuals.
First, to all the local birders who have shared the trails and/or
interesting exchanges with me over the years, including (but certainly
not limited to): Larry Rosche, Bill Whan, Ben Fambrough, Scott Wright,
Suzanne Wagner, Brad Sparks, and Jay Lehman; and most especially Paula
Lozano and Bob Finkelstein, who welcomed me when I arrived by generously
taking me on tours of the northern Ohio hotspots and have always been
great birding companions and friends.
Second, to all the birds who first allowed themselves to be appreciated
by this intrepid birder within the boundaries of the great State of
Ohio, including at least the following: red phalarope, Townsend's
solitaire, Say's phoebe, varied thrush, barn owl, yellow-headed
blackbird, Ross's goose, worm-eating warbler, prothonotary warbler, Cape
May warbler, dickcissel, king rail, Carolina chickadee, LeConte's
sparrow, and orange-crowned warbler.
Extra special thanks go to the Swainson's warbler that took time out of
its busy schedule of skulking around the Louisiana bayou to visit
Headlands for a three-day engagement two years ago.
That's about it. If you happen to be heading up Syracuse way and need
someone to show you where to find the good birds, please feel free to
look me up. I should be easy to find - just check the Oneidabirds
listserv.
Finally, as always, good birding; and good luck.
