Having waited until duck hunting season ended, I had hoped today's visit
would be greeted by a collection of waterfowl gathered around an opening in
the reservoir's ice. No such luck; the water is completely iced over. I
wandered around a bit and drove by the Dick Rd. wetlands, which seemed to
hold some birdlife. Specifically, the well-chewed (by beavers)
stream-course north of Dick Rd. held a plethora of sparrows and others.
Noted were:

Song Sparrow - 15-20+

Swamp Sparrow - 10-15

FOX SPARROW - 2

FIELD SPARROW - 6+

Am. Tree Sparrow - 5-10

White-crowned Sparrow - 2

N. Cardinal ~10

Rusty Blackbird - heard

Red-shouldered Hawk - 1 immature

Red-tailed Hawk -1

Am. Kestrel - 1

N. Harrier - 1 male

And misc. others

If looking for waterfowl in the Pickaway County area, the Island Rd.
quarries (off U.S. 23 north of Circleville) continue to harbor many.
Apparently many sleep there and forage in the surrounding area, possibly on
the Scioto. Diversity has not been high when I have stopped, but there have
been Redheads, Gadwall, Wigeon, Pied-billed Grebe, and the expected
Mallards, Black Ducks, Canada Geese, and Coots.

Happy Birding!
