Shane Egleston and I studied the geese at Cowan for some time in very good
light
and believe there are 3 Ross's geese among the many Snow Geese that Larry
Gara
reported. These geese were notably smaller, had a proportionally stubbier
bill
showing no grin patch and the line formed by the base of the bill and cheek
was very straight. The base of the bill had a light blue/gray color.

At Caesar Creek a White-winged Scoter was viewed from the
Furnas boat ramp. We think the scoter is a first winter male - it was a dark
brown
bird with a light patch behind the eye and a light tipped bill. When first
sighted it was resting with its head tucked, and the white
wing feathers were conspicuous. We then walked the closed road at the
50 Springs area to get a better look and could see the light tipped bill.

The Red-throated Loon was again seen from the end of Harveysburg Rd.
