Greetings from the thawing swamp,

After weeks on unrelenting freeze, water has suddenly appeared in several of the usual places, including the Paulding Sewage Lagoons and the Thomas Wetlands near Antwerp. And with this water the waterfowl have suddenly discovered Paulding County again. Today was pretty incredible for us. It began with the appearance of a pair of Ross's Geese at the Paulding Sewage Ponds and ended with a trio of Snow Geese at the Thomas Wetlands.

Ducks are beginning to show up in good numbers as well. We found 12 species today, including

N. Shoveler
Black Duck
Mallard
Gadwall
Pintail
Green-winged Teal
Redhead
Lesser Scaup
Ring-neck Duck
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Wood Duck

If this is any indication, the next week or two should be spectacular! Now if someone would just go over to the Paulding Reservoir and bust up the ice on it..... Well, perhaps a nice rain would do the trick.

Bird long and prosper,
Doug & Micki Dunakin
Antwerp, O.
