The waterfowl migration was going full throttle at Hoover Reservoir this
afternoon. Linda and I made a circuit of the reservoir and there was activity
everywhere from the dam north to Galena. Several of the better stops were at the
dam where the highlight was the Red-throated Loon that is keeping company
with the Common Loons, the East Walnut Street Boat Ramp where there was a
second Red-throated Loon, Oxbow Road which was hosting over 100 Ruddy Ducks,
Dustin Road where there were several hundred Ring-necked Ducks, the Area M
Boardwalk where we observed the Osprey back at the nesting platform, and Twin
Bridges with several hundred Red-Breasted Mergansers. Each stop had a variety of
other activity making the trip enjoyable and productive.

Species of interest beyond the regular cast included:

RED-THROATED LOON
Common Loon
Pied-Billed Grebe
Horned Grebe
Double-crested Cormorant
Black Vulture
Wood Duck
Ring-necked Duck
Greater Scaup
Lesser Scaup
