 Hi all,
?? I birded Hoover Reservior on Friday afternoon, and Mohican State Forest, Killbuck Marsh, Pleasant Hill Lake and surrounding areas on Sunday. There was a good movement of waterfowl, and many land birds are picking up too- I got lots of new birds for the year. Some of this has already been reported, but anyway the highlights/early migrants were:

Hoover Reservior:
1 Red-throated Loon along with 6 Common Loons and a good variety of other waterfowl near the dam.

Mohican SF:
Red-shouldered Hawk- 2 (a pair courting- really neat displays and calls!)
Red-breasted Nuthatch- 1
Eastern Phoebe- 1
Fox Sparrow- 2 (first time I have heard this species sing in Ohio)
Evening Grosbeak- at least 3 coming in to a private feeder near the Fire Tower.

Killbuck Marsh WA:
Pied-billed Grebe- 4
Tree Swallow- 3
Gray Catbird- 1 (singing!)
In all, 18 species of waterfowl
The Shreve Fish Pond had good shorebird habitat, but about 20 Killdeer were the only shorebirds

Other "Amish areas" in Holmes Co:
Purple Martin- 1 (lone male on a house)
Chipping Sparrow- 1 (almost in breeding plumage)
Black Vulture- 2 (first time I have seen them that far north)
I stopped briefly to look for the Hoary Redpoll, and saw no redpolls of any kind

Pleasant Hill Lake:
Red-necked Grebe- 1

Good Birding-
Steve
