I was just reading Ryan Steiner's post about Killdeers being back at Smithville when I heard the first of the season flying over our house in Rocky Ridge. This is in Ottawa County, west of Oak Harbor and just south of Magee Marsh / Crane Creek. There were 13 on the census at nearby Ottawa Natl Wildlife Refuge yesterday, so it appears that they are arriving (as Ryan says) in force, probably with great numbers moving on a broad front. Along with the movement of ducks, crows, blackbirds, etc., this is the vanguard of the migration that will make this area so exciting for the next three months.

To coin a phrase: Spring it on!
