Yesterday I went birding at Spring Valley from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. I
found about a dozen Purple Martins flying over the south parking lot. I
did not hear or see any rails or bitterns while there. I had 42 species
of birds. Beginning about 7:00 the Red-winged Blackbirds were in such a
large number and making such a raucous that they drowned out even close
Canada Geese. After they quieted down the amphibs took over trying to
drown out the geese.
