My backyard stretch along the Scioto River in Columbus today holds one of the largest concentrations of ducks I ever recall seeing here. Ducks noted here today in addition to the usual Canada Geese and Mallards included :

6 Wood Ducks
1 N Pintail
~30 Canvasbacks
~75 Redheads
~325 Ring-necked Ducks
Greater Scaups (several)
~25 Lesser Scaups
4 Buffleheads
~45 C Goldeneyes
50+ Hooded Mergansers
3 Common Mergansers

Also several Pied-billed Grebes and 1 Am Coot. I could have sworn that I heard the chip note of a Pine Warbler here too, but I couldn't relocate the bird once I grabbed my binoculars. In any case, they should be arriving about now in the forests further south.

Bob Royse,
Columbus
