The warm weather and strong winds today brought lots of Turkey Vultures to
South Bass Island as well as my first Tree Swallow for the season! There
was open water last night to the north of Perry's Victory memorial where
there were over 250 Red-breasted Mergansers mixed with Common Goldeneyes
and a few Buffleheads. Open water over the reef in the Bay held large
numbers of Scaup and a few Canvasback. Hooded Mergansers were in the pond
as well as several Great-Blue Herons. John Dodge found two Eastern
Meadowlarks at the airport on Friday and Val Kowalski has reported a Brown
Thrasher on the ground by her feeder as well.
