On April 18 I checked various areas near Magee Marsh for shorebirds.
The depression to the east of Howard Road had about 50 dunlin and a few
pectoral sandpipers.
The wet fields to the east of the large church off Elliston Road (just
south of Route 2) had a large
number of dunlin, a few pectoral sandpipers and both yellowlegs. There was
one peep, likely a
least -- it was in the far corner of this wetland.
There are wet spots in the field to the east of Park Colony Road, but no
shorebirds other than a
few killdeer. I didn't find any other wet fields in the area north of Route
2 and west of Howard Road.
At dusk there were about 20 snipe off Benton Carroll Road (to the east) and
yellowlegs/killdeer to
the west.
