an adult male yellow-rumped(audubon's) warbler was found at mid morning at veterans park in mentor. initially i was the only one to see the bird, found as it fed on the grass behind the picnic shelter, but jim mccarty quickly refound the bird as it fed on one of the docks along the pond. jerry talkington later relocated the bird along the west walking path out to the pond and obtained a fuzzy, but diagnostic, digital image of the audubon's warbler. 40 or so yellow-rumped (myrtle) warblers seem to be frequenting areas along the shore of the pond and the audubon's warbler was with this group. as far as i know our sighting was the first mentor headlands area record of this distinctive subspecies. also noted at veterans park today were a very early (for the headlands area) adult male black and white warbler, also seen yesterday, at least three (3) adult male pine warblers, and a louisiana waterthrush, a species uncommonly observed in the mentor headlands area.
