Greetings from the far corner of Ohio,

My wife Micki heard and later found a Louisiana Waterthrush at the Forrest Woods State Nature Preserve late this morning.  For those of you in non-glaciated Ohio, this would be just another nesting bird species, but for those of us in the flatlands created by the last ice age, this is a remarkable find.  This individual marks only our third sighting in the past 18 years, the two previous individuals having been found in 1990 and 2000, so what is a "ho hum, another warbler for the checklist" to most of you is a big thrill in these parts!  You can understand, then, why we up here on the windswept plains just yawn when many of you excitedly report Snow Buntings, which are anything but rare in our winter fields.
