While driving down Trebue Ave. near the Scioto river my husband and I
spotted a mature bald eagle being harrassed by a small bird. Both birds
were pretty high up, but the eagle was unmistakeable. Its white head
was easily seen. While it has become quite common to see the eagles in
the countryside, this one took us by surprise, since this portion of the
Scioto is within the metro area of Columbus, and quite developed. We
also spotted what looked like a little blue heron in the Olentangy
river, the section visible from I-670. This bird's ID is iffy. We were
in traffic, but I was able to compare with a great blue nearby, and it
was smaller and definitely darker and almost slaty blue in color. If
confirmed, that bird definitely overshot its destination!
