Greetings birders -
A very productive birding trip into the field, with 15 other friends, turned up 76 species in Funk Bottoms, Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area, and the Mount Hope area.
Highlights include:
- 6 spp of warblers including Prairie (Killbuck), Palm, Black-throated Green, and Nashville
- 8 spp of shorebirds including numerous Pectorals, several Wilson's Snipe, Least, and both yellowlegs (Funk Bottoms WA, observation platform trail), Solitary, Spotted
- 7 spp of sparrows including Field, Savannah, Swamp, White-crowned.
- At least 8 Sandhill Cranes (Funk and Killbuck)
- White-eyed and Warbling Vireos (Killbuck)
- Numerous Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, a single Willow Flycatcher, two Eastern Kingbirds
- Purple Martins thick in Mount Hope/Millersburg area
- 3 very vocal and visible Ring-necked Pheasants in Mount Hope/Millersburg
- 2 Bobolink males in Mount Hope
