Hi folks,

A group of about a dozen birders joined me on a short walk this morning in
the north part of Glen Helen.

We had beautiful, sunny weather, which meant of course that all the birds
positioned themselves directly between us and the sun. We came away with
list of residents and migrants, including...

Great blue heron
Turkey vulture
Canada goose
Wood duck (a brilliant male in a tree)
Broad winged hawk (a pair near a suspected nest site)
Mourning dove
Great horned owl (the young are out of the nest now, and two were seen in
flight)
Red bellied woodpecker
Downy woodpecker
Eastern phoebe
Blue jay
American crow
Carolina chickadee
Tufted titmouse
White-breasted nuthatch
Carolina wren
Blue-gray gnatcatcher
(Mystery thrush -- probably a hermit)
American robin
Yellow-rumped warbler
Black-throated green warbler
Northern parula
Yellow-throated warbler
Louisiana waterthrush
Scarlet tanager
Eastern towhee
Northern cardinal
Brown-headed cowbird
American goldfinch

Next Glen Helen bird walk will be next Sunday, May 4th, at 8:00 am.

Make it Count for the Birds, our 24-hour birding extravaganza, will be the
following Saturday, May 10th.

Hope to see you out in the Glen!
