This was the first time I have been able to to a waterbird survey since the
first week of February due to a frozen lake. The lake finally opened up
here on Monday and by yesterday was the first day I saw no ice. There was a
nice feeding frenzy right off my yard this morning with numerous
red-breasted mergansers and a few other species. Of note were white-winged
scoter and lesser black-backed gull.

There were a few new migrants around including belted kingfisher,
yellow-rumped warbler, and chipping sparrow. There was only a single
redpoll at the feeders today. The wind switched pretty early and no hawks
were seen from here.
