Went on a sunset walk out back tonight, and dusk was just setting in when I heard it. A low, prolonged Tremolo coming from the trees by the creek. I followed it cautiously and then scanned the big Sycamore where it seemed to be coming from. From a good sized hole in a large branch peeked my little friend the Screech Owl. What a splendid fellow he is, a startling red, shining in the low light. Had it been a gray morph I might have had more trouble seeing it. I assume its the same Red morph that I've been seeing the past two years. I had tried to call him out the other night but he never showed up or answered, so I was a little worried about him, but it seems I was just too far away. He Called a few more times and then dropped from his hole and took flight accross the small clearing and landed in a group of trees and continued his trill drill. It was so neat to see him fly, his wide red wings almost as wide as his body, really a beautiful bird. 



Later on the walk I flushed a turkey, and some song sparrows, Killdeer were flying all around and a group of 5 Wood Ducks came in and landed on the creek. I also saw my first Bat of the season, looked like a possible brown bat by its flight style. Fun stuff.
