I think I need the help of you experts to identify a bird that I saw on
Sunday at Darby Bend Lakes (in Hilliard off Amity Rd). I was able to watch
this bird for about 30 min. in various amounts of light and location, but I
still cannot identify it. Here is the particulars:

The size was slightly larger than a sparrow; tail was short, ending just
slightly beyond the body; the beak was black; legs were black; eyes were
black with a thin black streak ending just at the tip of each eye; top of
the head and under the chin were a very bright rust color; belly was heavily
streaked black, and the wings and back were also streaked. During the time I
watched it, it jumped from a small bramble bush to the base of a tree, and
then when I walked closer, it flew up to about mid-way in a 20-ft tree, and
then later flew a little higher. It never made a sound the whole time I was
watching it. It moved slowly and sat very still during the times I watched
it.

Ok, I know this is rather detailed, but as I say, it was a willing bird. I
kept hoping it would sing so at least I could hear something.

Does anyone have any idea? I've searched all my bird books, I went online to
WhatBird, and I still don't have a clue.

If anyone wants to go out there and see if they can find it again, I can
give you specific directions to the area.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
