The Brown Pelican found at Buck Creek State Park- near Springfield in
Clark County- was still present as of 5:15 p.m. (today, May 9th). My
first chance to go by there was at 3:30 p.m., and I saw it sitting on
the beach sleeping with its head tucked. It was near the south end of
the beach (closer to the dam) below the smaller restroom building. I
just stopped for a few seconds while driving across the dam, and easily
found it.
After work I went over to bird a little and see if the pelican was still
there. I found it about 4:30 swimming just offshore of the beach. It
flew a short way when something stirred up the gulls. It drifted around
for a while, but flew again when some curious fishermen trolling for
walleye eased over within 30 yards.
They didn't really bother it much; it just made a few lazy circles and
flew out to a big raft of gulls farther offshore. It tried to land on a
buoy, but lost its balance and plopped down in the water. It was still
easily visible from the beach. I posted Larry Jeanblanc's photo for him
on the OOS forum:

I think the chances of seeing it tomorrow are good. The weather is not
supposed to be conducive for flying, with light fog and low cloud
ceilings early in the day. If it isn't at the south end by the dam, it
still might be at the upper end. You could try scanning from the boat
ramp, marina, or the access lane off of Grant Road if you don't find it
by the dam.

The woods in the park are loaded with passerine migrants as well; the
weather should keep them from moving tonight.

Maybe I'll remember to bring my camera to work tomorrow...
