There are presently 13 species of shorebirds at the Mill Creek Wildlife
sanctuary, totaling 200+ birds. The average has been about 150 shorebirds on
site per day during the migration. Breeding has begun for many other species,
notably American coot, common moorhen, spotted sandpiper, green heron, wood
duck, hooded merg and blue-winged teal among others. Bald eagles are still
sitting tight on eggs. The species count so far this year is 122.
I would appreciate "off list" observations of shorebirds in Ohio, especially
NE OH, for comparison purposes. They will help determine which shorebird
species are conspicuous by their presence or absence at the sanctuary.
Happy birding.
