First time posting...
For the past ten days visitors to the South end of Spring Valley Wildlife have?enjoyed watching an active Pileated Woodpecker nest.? 3 juvies, 2 female and 1 male are close to fledging. Adults return to nest at 30-45 minute interval to feed the young. Pictures at www.pbase.com/nsxbirder . Today a Red-headed Woodpecker climbed the tree to within inches of the nest hole. A Barred Owl was also heard (and seen by others)?in the immediate vicinity.
