A number of unseasonable reports this week with Ross's Goose, Brant,
Red Crossbill, White-winged Crossbill and Evening Grosbeak all making
rare late spring appearances.

Ross's Goose: Seen at the North end of Summit Lake, Akron, on the 24th.

Brant: A flock of 47 was reported flying by North Perry, Lake County,
on the 26th.

Little Blue Heron: An adult was at Detwiler [Marsh] Park, Toledo on the
27th and 28th.

TRICOLORED HERON: On the 24th one was seen in the yard of 1260 CR 308
between CR 205 and CR 219 northwest of Bellevue, Sandusky County, in an
area of flooded fields.

MISSISSIPPI KITE: Rick Nirschl saw one flying over Oak Openings
MetroPark, Lucas County, on the 24th. No reports of the previously seen
bird at the Brass Ring Golf Course near Logan, Hocking County.

King Rail: Two were reported calling at Big Island Wildlife Area,
Marion County, on the 23rd.

PIPING PLOVER: The bird reported last week from Headlands Beach State
Park remained at least through the 24th.

BLACK-NECKED STILT: Sean Williams discovered three at Big Island
Wildlife Area, Marion County, on the 23rd. On the 29th, all were
apparently gone.

American Avocet: A dozen were on the beach at Alum Creek State Park,
Delaware County, on the 25th.

Whimbrel: Multiple flocks were reported flying by North Perry, Lake
County, on the 26th. One was on the beach at Conneaut, Ashtabula
County, on the 27th.

Red Knot: A flock of 47 was photographed at Big Island Wildlife Area,
Marion County, on the 24th.

Western Sandpiper: Two were reported from the Findley Reservoirs,
Hancock County, on the 23rd.

Laughing Gull: One was reported as flying by North Perry, Lake County,
on the 24th, and another was at the beach at Caesar's Creek State Park
on the 27th.

Franklin's Gull: Pittsburgh birders found one on the beach at Conneaut,
Ashtabula County, on the 27th.

Olive-sided Flycatcher: Reported at Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, on
the 23rd; at Oak Openings Metropark, Headlands Beach State Park, and
Ravenna Arsenal, Portage County, on the 24th; at Elmwood Cemetery and
Wetland Preserve, Lorain, on the 25th; at North Perry, Lake County, on
the 26th; at Whetstone Park, Columbus, on the 28th; and again from Oak
Openings Metropark on the 29th.

Connecticut Warbler: Reported on the 23rd from Blendon Woods, Columbus,
and from Hogback Road near Kilbourne, Delaware County. One was at
Headlands Beach State Park on the 23rd and 24th, and multiple birds
were reported Magee Marsh Wildlife Area from the 23rd to the 26th.

Red Crossbill: On the 24th Aaron Boone and his North Coast Open team
mates found one at Oak Openings Metropark just southwest of the
intersection of Girdham Road and the Wabash-Cannonball Trail.

White-winged Crossbill: Ditto.

Evening Grosbeak: The previously reported bird was seen again at North
Perry, Lake County, on the 26th.
