Subject: eBird Report - Miami Whitewater County Park and Wetlands , 5/4/08

Location: Miami Whitewater County Park and Wetlands
Observation date: 5/4/08
Notes: I met up with Pete Kavouras at the wetlands at 7:30 a.m. I drove through the park prior to meeting with him and detected some species that we did not have together. We birded until 1:10 p.m., beginning at the wetlands, then checking Big Sycamore picnic area for the yellow-throated warbler and other birds, Bowle's woods for warblers and others and finally Tallgrass Prairie trail where our target was Kentucky warbler. A brief stop at the visitor center yielded the mute swan found in the main lake. The morning began with 42 degree (F)temps with a forecast high of only 63 degrees (F). Calmer wind conditions than yesterday enabled us to hear and then see a Henslow's sparrow, one of the many highlights of our day. Other highlights include a very cooperative marsh wren at the wetlands, a Kentucky warbler in the park and a surprise find of a yellow-throated vireo nest in the building stage just above eye level! Skies were clear for most of the morning and early afternoon.
