Jim Fry called to tell me that after listening to the black rail he
drove farther west on Radcliffe Rd, then south on River Rd through the
new CRP grasslands, where he heard and saw a number of dickcissels. When
we were there the other night we heard numerous singing Henslow's
sparrows and at least one sedge wren here as well. The success of these
species hearkens back to the pioneer days, when this area was a large
prairie in what was called the Pickaway Plains.
