Atlas work this evening at the Hardin Co. wetlands turned up a remarkable 4 pair of Wilson's Phalaropes, all agitated and nervously flying around.

An American Bittern has been calling for over a month now and may also be breeding there.

Other sightings include:
24 Blue winged teal with 5 nests
1 male N. Shoveler
1 female Pintail
8 Green winged teal  1 agitated pair and 6 other males
4 Redhead  1 pair and 2 other males
8 Hooded Mergansers  1 female and 7 chicks
3 Ruddy Ducks  1 pair and another male
19 Pied billed grebes  2 active nests and 3 different broods
12 Am Coot  2 broods 
1 Vesper Sparrow
8 Savannah Sparrows
6 Grasshopper Sparrows
15 Dickcissels  all singing, territorial males
11 Bobolinks  singing males

The Hardin Co. wetlands, under new ownership, is still posted and off limits to the public. It is constantly patroled by the Hardin Co. sheriffs dept.and unauthorized visitors will be questioned.
