On the way to do some atlasing in Pike County, Brad Sparks and I stopped by
Charlie's Pond near Circleville. At 7 AM the Black Rail was calling
incessantly. Interestingly, the road by the pond was littered with the smashed
bodies of tiny frogs. I assume these were some of the cricket frogs that have
been creating the confusion about Yellow Rails.

On the way back from atlasing, we stopped at the OSU west campus in Columbus
and found the pair of Bell's Vireos in the scrubby vegetation just west of the
Carmac parking lot.

Happy birding,

Paul Gardner
Columbus, OH
