I have two pairs of nesting bluebirds in my yard. One pair had 4 eggs in the nest box several days ago, then 3 eggs a few days ago, and now 2 eggs remain today. There is a large baffle on the pole and no evidence of a mammal in the vicinity of the box, although I know raccoons and oppossums frequent my feeder area at night. The box is in an open area a few hundred feet from the feeder area. Can anyone tell me what is the likely culprit? Would sparrows or wrens take eggs from the Bluebird boxes? We have many House Wrens occupying most of the dozen or so bird houses situated in trees all over the property, either with a real nest or a decoy nest. And, like most people, we have more House Sparrows than we care to feed. Does anyone have any suggestions to help my Bluebird family?
