Our monthly bird count was done yesterday, June 26. Despite the bugs
and heat, we were able to see 54 species in 5 hours.
Here are some of the highlights:

Two pied-billed grebe families. Some of the young still had their
striped heads.
A common moorhen with young.
One lone ruddy turnstone on the wildlife beach.
Prothonotary warbler on the boardwalk.
Many common terns hunting over the marsh.
But the highlight was seeing and hearing 4 least bitterns! Two of them
sat up for quite awhile and gave us really nice looks.

So, yes most of the warblers are gone, but there is still lots to see
here at Magee.

Upcoming events: July 5th Hike the Dike Walk (dragonflies) Meet
at Bird Center at 9 am
July 19 BUGFEST noon until 4 pm
August 9 Hike the Dike Walk (shorebirds) Meet at Bird Center at 9
am
August 16 Shorebird Walk Meet at the Bird Center at 8 am.

Happy Summer and Happy Birding!
