Well here's a topic I always have questions about. From what I know, Ohio and PA both had more Wilson's phalaropes this spring than usual. As for breeders, fingers crossed. I'd agree there are more shorebirds still moving now, and careful aging/sexing is well worth noting (as it is at all seasons). A few years ago I was along the TX coast this time of year and there were still white-rumped sandpipers and others obviously moving through. I have another question. Which race(s) of red knots pass through Ohio, rufa or roselaari ? Will the distribution of knots over the next several years change in Ohio, mirroring the continued crash of rufa? Hopefully, there will be some good habitat along western L. Erie this fall. That's where the birds want to be, given half a chance. As an area of global importance, there's no excuse for the lack of quality shorebird feeding/staging habitat out there like was reported last fall---on govt-managed lands. We'll see how another
managed locale, the Lorain impoundments, fares in a few weeks. Later, Craig
