Greetings Birders -
Here's another quick shorebird update for those of you looking for some pipers tomorrow:
Willow Point Wildlife Area (12:30 pm - 2 pm)
Several hundred shorebirds, with Least, Semipalmated and Pectoral Sandpipers most abundant. Three White-rumped Sandpipers (1 studied well), 4 Stilt Sandpipers, 12+ Short-billed Dowitchers, 1 Wilson's Snipe, numerous Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs. Loads of Killdeer, many Semipalmated Plovers.
Bellevue area: CR 292 railroad ponds are drying up fast but have spectacular habitat (3 pm - 3:40 pm)
Many hundreds of shorebirds, with Least, Semipalmated and Pectoral Sandpipers most abundant. At least 30+ Stilt Sandpipers, 1 Wilson's Phalarope, 1 Black-bellied Plover. Numerous Semipalmated Plovers, tons of yellowlegs (mostly Lessers), opportunity for Buff-breasted exists with GREAT habitat here but we came up empty. Only spent 40 minutes at location, with more searching surely could have turned up more peep species plus other odds and ends.
best of birding-
