Hello!
In addition to the shorebirds reported in a previous post by Al La Sala, I
observed an immature Virginia Rail this evening (~7:40 PM to dark) at the Honda
wetlands. It was sporadically observed feeding as it would go in and out
of the cattails in an area west of the boardwalk and east of the observation
tower. Eventually, it flew right by me and Bob Baran and landed on the east
side of the boardwalk where it continued feeding out in the open on mudflats
adjacent to cattails. I got fantastic views through my scope. Since my last
visit this past Sunday, water levels have receded sufficiently to provide
good habitat for shorebirds to forage. Hopefully, these wetlands will provide
good shorebirding opportunities in the upcoming weeks. Directions to Glacier
Ridge are at _www.metroparks.net_ (http://www.metroparks.net) .
