Cooper's Hawk - 3 juveniles, with dark streaking on breasts and white
flecking in feathers on backs (photos)
As I was driving west on East 36th Street near Clinton Avenue, I noticed a
juvenile Cooper's Hawk on the ground. At first I thought it was trying to
catch something because it was walking and hopping and appeared to be pouncing on
something. However, I couldn't see any prey. Also, it was calling
constantly, and I spotted another juvenile calling from a nearby tree. The second bird
flew down, landed near the first one, and started calling and walking
around. When runner got too close to them, they moved up into the trees. Finally, a
third juvenile joined them, calling and flying from oak tree to oak tree in
the SW quadrant of the park.
