A few days ago, I noticed a nice area of mudflats developing around the Twin
Lakes Area of the O'shaughnessy Nature Preserve (off Dublin Road just north
of the town of Shawnee Hills). I finally had a chance to check it out this
morning and was pleasantly surprised to find a MARBLED GODWIT. The mudflats
in this area are very accessible and resemble what you frequently find this
time of year at the north end of Hoover Reservoir.

Of course this is pure speculation but I would imagine that this bird and
the Glacier Ridge MP bird are the same individual. Fifteen minutes after I
had this bird, Glacier Ridge proved to be godwit-less. As the crow flies,
this nature preserve is only 4 miles from the Glacier Ridge wetland.

Considering the easy access to O'shaughnessy Nature Preserve, this area
should be checked often. There were many great birds there. Surprisingly,
the most common shorebird species was Solitary Sandpiper and I ended with a
total of 27 birds. This considering that there were about 20 Killdeer and
only 2 Lesser Yellowlegs. Over the course of 1 hour, there seemed be quite
a bit of turn-over. The godwit arrived about 20 minutes after I did.

The link below shows nice sat. imagery of the nature preserve. Good
birding!
